In January of 2009, a CampsAbroad team of Dr. and Mrs. Ken Hay and Chris Lynch went to Sao Paulo for a week of staff training followed by a week of teen camp. They assisted Missionary Nathan Fray and his family at Camp Bethel.

Camp Reports / Testimonies

From 2009

"We had approximately 35 people ranging in ages from 14-40 at the Staff Training Week session. From that group we picked 8 counselors and 6 operational staff. On Monday we traveled to Camp Bethel, about an hour and a half away by ferry boat. The camp, located on an island, is absolutely beautiful. It is on a 1,000 acre lake that serves as a water source for the city of 28 million people. The accommodations for us as well as for the campers were quite nice.

On Sunday, Chris spoke in both the morning and evening services in one of Nathan's church plants. Diane and I had the privilege of teaching Sunday School, and I preached in Nathan's first church plant. This was a wonderful experience, and one of the six who came forward was for salvation. Sunday evening, Diane and I were at Hope Baptist Church in downtown Sao Paulo. They have a magnificent structure, and there were about 300 in attendance. Nathan's parents, Marv and Diane, started this church, the "mother" church for many church plants.

Forty campers were registered and 60 showed up with the average age being 13 or 14. There were 10 recorded decisions for salvation and 15 other decisions by Christians. It started raining on Tuesday and continued for the rest of the week. Each day the games were played in the mud. The campers loved it. Three ball baseball was a real mud bath for everyone, even the photographer (me), who got too close to the action!" – Report from Ken Hay
